NEW DIRECTOR AT VBDL
DECATUR, MICHIGAN – – – – The Van Buren District Library Board of Trustees announces the hiring of Dan Hutchins of Rochester, Michigan as the system’s new director.
Board Vice Chair Sandy Hanson says Hutchins will officially join the District December 4.
“We are looking forward to working with our new director and benefitting from his innovative ideas,” Hanson says. “While the library continues to accomplish great things at each location, we know, with Dan’s guidance, the District can continue to move forward and grow.”
Hutchins, a native of the Detroit area, began his library career at the Rochester Hills Public Library while still in high school. He received his bachelor’s degree from Oakland University and his master’s in library science from Wayne State University. Since then, he has worked in public and academic libraries for more than 20 years. Most recently, Hutchins served as Director of the Harrison Township Public Library.
“As an undergraduate, I found the library to be an exciting, fast-paced environment full of diverse and interesting people,” Hutchins says. “They are such a valuable, vital resource and have given me so much in my life. My goal now is to give something back to libraries and the communities they serve. I am thrilled to soon be a member of the Van Buren District Library community.”
While not at the library, Hutchins enjoys music, comic books, working out, and spending time with his wife, who is also a librarian, and their three dogs.
VBDL is headquartered at Webster Memorial Library in Decatur, with branches in Bangor, Bloomingdale, Covert, Gobles, Lawrence and Mattawan.
