VBDL BOARD HONORS TRUSTEE FOR YEARS OF SERVICE
DECATUR, MICHIGAN —-The Van Buren District Library Board of Trustees honored long-time board member Phil Marshall of Lawrence during the December meeting.
Marshall, whose term ends December 31, was recognized for his over 24 years of service to the district. Board Chair Sandra Hanson noted Marshall’s many contributions during the reading of a formal resolution.
“Phil was instrumental in helping the library achieve many milestones,” Hanson says. “He has been a tireless advocate for library service in his home community, working first with the Lawrence Friends Advisory Board and since 1993 as a Library Board Trustee.”
VBDL Director Dan Hutchins presented Marshall with a plaque and echoed the board’s sentiments.
“Phil has been involved with the Van Buren District library from the very beginning,” Hutchins says. “He was instrumental in helping the fledgling district pass its first millage in 1991. Since being appointed to the board in 1993, Phil has generously given his time and talents in service of the library and its educational mission.”
The Van Buren District Library Board consists of representatives from each of the system’s seven locations and one at-large. The board meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at library headquarters in Decatur. VBDL has branches in Bangor, Bloomingdale, Covert, Gobles, Lawrence and Mattawan.
